My birthday was post-poned for a few days…. until the rained cleared anyway.
I wanted to go on a hike and follow up with a visit to our local organic brewery, Mikes, (http://organicbeer.co.nz) for a well deserved micro-brew.
White Cliffs Walk is a beautiful mini tramp. It’s a loop which starts as an uphill walk through farmland. It has wide open ocean and farm views, followed by a series of steep downhill steps winding through the bush, until finally making its way back to the coast. You have to time the walk with the tides, otherwise you get stuck doing a slingshot hike through the bush instead of the loop along the beach.
As you reach the beach, you can’t help but to gawk at the massive white cliffs towering over you. The day was windy ‘as’ of course and sand pelted us the entire way but regardless, its absolutely beautiful! John and I agreed that each time we’ve visited, it’s been a bit different. This time, we noticed the disturbing amount of erosion which had occurred since our last visit….yikes. We also agreed, White Cliffs is a rock climbers paradise. The cliffs are perfect for scurrying up. Maybe next time we’ll pack some extra gear. 🙂
